I recently attended a Psychology of Success workshop as part of the Active Business Group small business support focus and it was fantastic!
Business Psychologist Prof Mike Ferguson delivered a practical and insightful session to help us unlock momentum, strengthen mindset and apply proven strategies for our own growth.
What stood out most was the reminder that sustainable success starts with balance. When one area of life is neglected, it affects everything else. Think of it as a wheel — if one section is out of alignment, the journey feels bumpier than it needs to be. Strong businesses are built by people who are looking after their energy, clarity and direction.
In that balance focus on the positives. Positive thoughts and feelings drive your behaviour. You’re much more likely to get things done in a positive state so there’s an element of re-aligning to do with who you spend your time with. Bye bye negative nellies!
Another powerful takeaway was the importance of defining a clear vision of what success looks like for YOU. Not a generic version. Your version. When you get specific about your version of success, you can identify the actions required — and more importantly, who you need to become to achieve it.
Growth isn’t accidental. It’s intentional.
This workshop highlighted all the tools we need to develop yourself alongside your business to drive the success we secretly crave. It’s there for the taking and it’s mostly in your mind!
The entire morning was a brilliant reminder for me that the success I dream about is totally available when I get super specific and embed myself in total belief I can achieve it.
The world needs more positive people in it to drive a tide of change.
When local networks like Active Business Group create spaces for these conversations, small businesses don’t just survive — they thrive!
