Last summer, ABG took to the coast – and enjoyed a sponsored walk… all to raise money for our former chairman.
Darren Bovis was fundraising himself for a motorised golf chair, to get him back to the game after a 2019 injury resulted in him being paralysed. As a group, we decided that the group could help.
Around £2,500 was raised – but then earlier this year, Darren asked us to divert the money from the golf assistance equipment, to therapy – which he was hoping would accelerate his
journey to walking again.
We did of course, and the therapy has been tough, punishing and draining, but he has been making good progress – which our whole group is delighted about. An update on his social media said:
“The six-week intensive at Neurokinex was hard, not only physically but mentally, but it has been a springboard and fast track to where Darren is now. First steps of walking are now happening, and the breakthrough, helped by the previous work over the years, is Darren’s knees are beginning to lock when weight bearing. This is the crucial ingredient to standing independently and walking independently. Results are happening, different sensations are occurring and reactions in Darren’s body are happening.”
We wish Darren the best of luck in his progress and recovery.
